City of Irving employees are entitled to a paid rest break of up to 15 minutes for every four hours of work that is not interrupted by a meal period. It is the responsibility of the employee to keep track of his or her time spent on break, and it also is expected that the employee will be punctual in starting and ending his or her break. In some departments, however, it is the responsibility of the supervisor to schedule employee rest breaks, while taking into consideration of the workload and nature of the job performed.
Per policy, employees are not allowed to combine two daily breaks into one 30 minute lunch. In other words, employees cannot bank rest periods nor save your break period to extend your lunch or shorten your work schedule.
For more details concerning breaks, refer to the Breaks policy available on Inet. For more information, contact Senior Employee Relations Advisor TeRena Colbert at email@example.com or (972) 721-7704.
